Jerga Peruana

Like any Spanish speaking country, Perú is full of slang. Here’s a list of some of the words I’ve come across.

TONO

The Peruvian word for ‘party’.

¿Quieres ir al tono este jueves?
Do you want to go to the party this Thursday?

‘Tonear’ is also used as a verb (to party).

PATA

‘Pata’ literally translates to the ‘leg’ or ‘paw’ of an animal. But in Perú it means ‘friend’ or ‘mate’.

Ella es mi pata.
She is my friend.

JATO

This word translates to ‘house’ in Perú.

Están en su jato.
They are in their house.
