In México is where the idea for this podcast began. It’s an amazing country with a lot of slang floating about…

GÜEY

Pronounced ‘wey’.

Means ‘mate’.

¿Todo bien, güey?
All good, mate?

CHIDO/A

Means ‘cool’.

¡Esos zapatos son muy chidos!
Those shoes are really cool!

PINCHE
Means ‘bloody/fucking’ (not sexual).

Used to exaggerate what you’re saying.

¡Este pinche encendedor no funciona!
This bloody lighter doesn’t work!

¿QUÉ ONDA?

‘Onda’ means ‘wave’ or ‘ripple’ in Spanish. But you will hear it as a common greeting in México meaning ‘What’s up?’

It’s also used in many other Latin American countries like Argentina.
